Are you looking for a good excuse to go outside, smell the fresh air, and watch birds ? If the answer's "yes," you should volunteer for the Fish Slough Patrol. Not only would you be spending time exploring the wonders of a rare desert wetland, you would also be performing a valuable service by helping protect this amazing place.
The Fish Slough Volunteer Patrol is a group of volunteers that protect the endangered Owens pupfish , check for illegal offroad vehicle use, and look for vandalism on petroglyph sites. Volunteers are on a rotating schedule; two go out to Fish Slough every weekend. For more info on the Fish Slough Volunteer Patrol, click here.
The orientation is an opportunity for interested volunteers to go out on the patrol, visit the monitoring sites, learn the responsibilities of the FS Patrol, explore the unique wetland habitat, share stories, and have fun. RSVP and direct questions to Maria either by emailing maria@friendsoftheinyo.org or by calling the office at 873-6500.
