Mammoth Crest Natural History Hike

Meets: 9 a.m.at the Crystal Lake Trailhead, Lake George (Mammoth Lakes Basin). This is an all-day hike.

Distance:  8 Miles Round Trip, ~ 2000’ Elevation Gain

Difficulty: Strenuous

Explore the high country above the Mammoth Lakes Basin on this strenuous but rewarding all day hike, led by FOI Lakes Basin Steward Brian Scavone. This scenic trip provides incredible views for examining the major landscape and geographical features of the area. The trail we will walk offers a variety of forest, sub-alpine, and alpine environments to check out as we traverse one of California’s major watershed divides.
Bring water, food, and sunscreen for a full day.
