Celebrate the freedom of the wilderness on a strenuous but beautiful shuttle hike into the Owens Headwaters
Wilderness. Leaving from the Fern Lake trailhead in June Lake, we’ll climb to Yost Meadows and then descend cross-country to Glass

Wilderness Bill Passes

More than 400,000 acres of pristine, beautiful Eastern Sierra lands are now protected as wilderness. Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 146, which included the Omnibus Public Lands bill that our local Eastern Sierra and Northern San Gabriel Wild Heritage Act was part of.

Wilderness Progress

The Omnibus Public Lands Package, which includes the Eastern Sierra and Northern San Gabriel Wild Heritage Act, has passed the Senate. Now it will be heard in the House of Representatives Wednesday, February 11.

January 2009 - Friends of the Inyo member action items

Thanks so much to everyone who attended our meetings on January 27 in Bishop and January 29 in Mammoth. On behalf of the the staff and board of Friends of the Inyo, I can tell you that your eagerness to come out and be an active part of the effort to keep the Eastside wild really inspires and motivates us to keep meeting the challenges we see in front of us.

WASHINGTON – In a rare Sunday session, the Senate advanced legislation that would set aside more than 2 million acres in nine states as wilderness. Majority Democrats assembled more than enough votes to overcome GOP stalling tactics in an early showdown for the new Congress.
