Tablelands are a wonderland to explore any time of the year. With fantastic volcanic land forms, hidden labyrinthine canyons, winter wildlife, and early spring flowers there's a bit of something for everyone. If we luck out and it's stormy there may even be some of the amazing ephemeral streams and waterfalls.

Please bring clothing for any weather condition, food and water for the day. It's a moderate 3 mile round trip but if it's interesting we'll spend most of the day out there. Other than road-closing snow, the trip is all weather.

Back again for the sixth year in a row it's our 2012 Chocolate Mountain expedition.

Our anual service trip with Washington State University. We cleaned up the old cabin in Hall canyon, hiking 5 miles each way and carrying out around 600# of garbage. The next day we cleaned up the old site around the end of the road in Jail Canyon, around 2200# of debris removed.

We also built 1,000 feet of new fence at Great Falls Basin

Day 1: get settled in and explore BLM Surprise Wilderness for three hours
