Route Description:
Spur route heading north off of 06S01A toward Iron Mountain.

Narrative Summary: Route travels through wash (Picture 812002), passes a spring (Picture 812003) and then travels through a meadow area (Picture 812004). It rejoins the wash and heads up an incline where it ends abruptly (Picture 812006). Near this end there is a low-use, stable campsite with a fire ring (Picture 812005). Route shows no recent use and no motorized vehicle tracks. Evidence of grazing. Crushed riparian vegetation near the spring and meadow indicates use by cattle. Sagebrush and rabbit brush are dominant vegetation. Vegetation in the center of the route ranges from 6 inches in the wash to 4 feet in the meadow. A turkey vulture, golden eagle and green-tailed towhee were spotted.

Recommendations: The purpose of this route is unclear. Perhaps it exists for grazing purposes or access to the spring. It has not received any recent use so we recommend removing it from the inventory.

Route Description: Route heads east off of 0S601A north of Dead Horse Meadow (Picture 812007).

Narrative Summary: Route travels east just north of Dead Horse Meadow. There are 2 campsites along the route. One site is stable, gets moderate use and has a fire ring (Picture 812008). The other site, located at the end of the route is high use and is growing (Picture 812009). Neither site shows signs of recent use, however, the entire route shows significant evidence of grazing and use by cattle (Picture 812010). Route shows no recent use and no motorized vehicle tracks. Sagebrush, Pinon pine and Curled-leaf mahogany are dominant vegetation. Vegetation in the center of the route ranges from 6 inches to 1 foot.

Recommendations: The purpose of this route is unclear. We recommend restoring it and removing it from the inventory.

Route Description: Route travels west off of 06S01A into Dead Horse meadow and ends at Crooked Creek (Picture 812013).

Narrative Summary: Low use. No tracks. Evidence of grazing (Picture 812016). Route is sandy and ends abruptly at Crooked Creek (Picture 812017). At this spot on the creek, there is an unstable, high-use campsite with a fire grate. There are no signs of recent use along the route or at the campsite. Sagebrush is the dominant vegetation. There is thick riparian vegetation, including willows and rose, at the end of the route.

Narrative Summary: Route travels through meadow for its entire length causing damage to riparian vegetation and making the route very muddy (Picture 812014). Low use. Full-size tracks present. Evidence of grazing. Route ends abruptly at Crooked Creek (Picture 812015). At this spot on the creek, there is an unstable, high-use campsite with a fire grate, hitching post and wood. Along the route there is riparian vegetation and grasses; there is thick riparian vegetation, including willows and rose, at the end of the route.

Recommendations: The purpose of this route is unclear. There is significant evidence of damage as it passes through the meadow. There is the potential for proliferation off of the route and through and in the creek due to its proximity and access to water. We recommend restoring the route and removing it from the inventory.

Route Description: Spur route heading west off Wyman Canyon Route (06S01) for less than 1/8 of a mile 3/4 of a mile west of Royal Gorge. Route splits in two 80 yards up. Both ends follow soon after.

Narrative Summary: Low-use routes with motorbike tracks through rabbit brush just south of Wyman Creek. Route likely was put in to service power lines as both spurs end at poles (Pictures 812020 & 812021). No clear recent purpose to route and no potential spots for good campsites.

Recommendations: Remove from inventory and place barriers at junction.

Route Description: Spur heading north of Wyman Canyon Route (06S01) for 1/8 of a mile to prospect one a mile west of Royal Gorge.

Narrative Summary: Low-use route steep and rocky in sections as it heads north through pinon following a wash (Picture 812023). At the end of the route large boulders were found yes no structures indicating recent mining activity (Picture 812024).

Recommendations: Route does no noticeable damage yet does not provide access to any campsites or points of interest. This route should be removed from the inventory.

Route Description: Route heading through Water Canyon at eastern edge of Bristlecone Pine Forest.

Narrative Summary: Route 3543SD begins as poorly-defined two-track at its south junction with the Wyman Canyon Route (06S01), (Picture 812027). This two-track continues for several hundred yards before reducing to a narrow trail (Picture 812028). This trail continues for another 100 yards before becoming completely overgrown by thick perennial riparian vegetation (Picture 812029).

Recommendations: This route does not successfully navigate through the riparian section just north of Wyman Canyon. It is very-low use and doesn't clearly exist much north of the junction with the Wyman Canyon Route. This route should be removed from the inventory.

Route Description: N1918 & N1919 are spurs running parallel to Wyman Canyon Route (06S01).

Narrative Summary: N1918 and N1919 are low-moderate use routes with no recent tracks through sagebrush and rabbitbrush. N1918 crosses Wyman Creek in an unstable, 90 degree crossing that is 6' above the crossing, 24.5' at the crossing and 4' below the crossing (Picture 812034). Fish, emerging riparian vegetation, and aquatic insects were observed in the crossing. Beyond the crossing the N1918 heads south and N1918 north each beneath the power lines in the area. It is likely this route was put in to access the power lines at one point. No campsites or other points of interest were found.

Recommendations: Due to the unstable crossing and unclear purpose of these routes, these routes should be restored to their natural condition.

Route Description: N1920 follows Wyman Creek as 06S01 heads up a hill to the southwest near Sentinel Peak.

Narrative Summary: N1920 crosses Wyman Creek in another unstable 90 degree crossing that is 6' above the crossing, 24' at the crossing, and 20.5' below the crossing (Picture 812037). Emergent riparian vegetation was found along and in the crossing. Aquatic insects were present in the 1' pool made by the crossing. Remnant ATV tracks were found on this route as it headed east through sparse vegetation (Picture 812038).

Recommendations: Due to the unstable crossing and unclear purpose of this route, it should be removed from the inventory. Additionally, this is a spur route adjacent to a riparian section of Wyman Creek and could invite proliferation into this creek.

Route Description: N1925 heads west up Wyman Canyon for 1/8 of a mile 1 mile east of Sentinel Peak.

Narrative Summary: N1925 is a moderate-high use route with full-sized vehicle, ATV, and motorbike tracks through sagebrush. The route leaves 06S01 (Picture 812041) and heads into Wyman Canyon. The route abruptly ends 150 yards up the canyon as it is met with a thick wall of willow (Picture 812042).

Recommendations: This route drops into a riparian corridor and then stops. Though it would be difficult, there is potential for proliferation up the canyon through this thick vegetation. The route should be restored to its natural condition and signs should be put up deterring motorists.

Route Description: 1/3 of a mile spur heading west up Wyman Creek 1 mile east of Sentinel Peak.

Narrative Summary: Moderate-use route with full-sized vehicle, ATV, and motorbike tracks through sagebrush. Use deteriorates as route counties west with center vegetation reaching 3' at the west end (Picture 812045). A moderate-use campsite was found at the terminus of the route. The campsite is 30' from the water and a large cliff separates the route from the riparian corridor below.

Recommendations: This route poses little problem and remains out of the riparian corridor created by Wyman Creek. Current management for motorized use should continue.
